Food Myth: Ordering a salad at a restaurant is always the better, healthier choice.
False! Many times salads at restaurants can be anywhere from 600-1000 calories and sometimes even more! A salad can be healthy but when they start adding in the different components it starts to increase the caloric content. Some things that add to the calorie count: fatty cheeses, fried chicken slices, tortilla slices, sour cream, guacamole, bacon bits, croutons and most importantly DRESSING.
Creamier dressings contain a high caloric content. When trying to lose weight stay away from creamy dressings and it should be used moderately. Order the dressing on the side so that you can put it on yourself. Only put enough to slightly coat the salad. Remember, just because it says salad in the name doesn’t necessarily mean its healthier or low in calorie!
